South Korea 2022 Day 7: Busan

DAY 7: 2 DEC 2022
Sky capsule

Hi there!
We explored Haeundae area today.
I was looking forward to this day ever since watching all the pretty sky capsule videos on IG.

Our initial plan for the day was to have breakfast at a cafe in Jeonpo.
However, we failed to do so partly because the cafe we visited did not have a wide selection of pastries and we were not interested in other cafes at that moment.
Instead, we made our way to Haeundae blue line park.

We took the line no. 2 train to Jungdong and walked 20 minutes before arriving at the park.
There was a long queue and we finally got to the counter at 12pm.
The staff informed us that the next available sky capsule to Cheongsapo was at 2.30pm.
Having read that it is nicer to take the sky capsule to Cheongsapo instead of the return trip, we immediately said ok to the 2.30pm timing.
To avoid the long wait, you can either make a reservation online or head to the counter earlier.

We paid 30,000 krw in total for a one way sky capsule ticket.
We did not purchase the beach train ticket for the return journey from Cheongsapo as we wanted more time to enjoy the scenery.
So, we walked back haha.

Haeundae beach

With 2.5 hours to kill, we decided to take a long walk to Dongbaek island, located on the other end of Haeundae beach.
I found out about this island while researching during our train ride to Haeundae.
I am glad we went because the views from the coastal trail were pretty!

I think I got my tan at Haeundae.

The mermaid statue is an icon on Dongbaek island.
We could see Haeundae beach from there!

We continued walking and reached a suspension bridge.
Those with fear of heights may have difficulty crossing the bridge as you could see what is beneath your feet aka waters.
Alternatively, there is a wooden path at the side for those who do not want to cross the bridge.

We reached the dongbaek island lighthouse after a short while.
You could see the city from here.
As it was close to 1.15pm, we decided to u-turn and head back to Haeundae blue line park.
It was a long walk but we arrived by 2pm.

We tried our luck to join the queue earlier but our little head start was gone as people jumped queue when the staff removed the entry rope.
At 2.50pm, we finally got into sky capsule no. 76.

It was a clear and sunny day which made the views even more prettier!
We snapped so many photos and enjoyed every single moment in the sky capsule.

The sky capsule travelled at a slow speed equivalent to our walking speeds.
The entire journey took 30 minutes.
Time flew by real quick and sadly, we arrived at Cheongsapo station.
I highly recommend you to take the sky capsule if you are in Busan!

It was 3.20pm when we left our sky capsule and were famished.
We walked to the area near the waters where all the restaurants were situated.
There were many grilled clam restaurants in the area and we definitely had to try one!
We went with Haeundae Grill (해운대구이).
This place became popular after appearing on Netflix.

We had the assorted grilled shellfish (medium) option at 45,000 krw which could feed 3 people.
The small option costs 35,000 krw and can feed 2 people.
We definitely over-ordered but managed to finish it as this was our first meal of the day!
Originally, I ordered a soybean paste stew too but either due to miscommunication or the lady down-sized our order for us, we got a bowl of rice instead.
Definitely a blessing in disguise because we were full from the shellfish!
A few side dishes were given to us and this included something that looked like dried fat worms.
I tried one but it was tasteless.

The shellfish assortment came with a plate of mozzarella cheese.
Yummy!

After a very full meal, we walked to Cheongsapo Daritdol Skywalk which was a short distance away.
Before entering the skywalk, you will need to wear protective shoe covers.
A staff will be there to pass a pair to you.

By the time we arrived at the skywalk, the sun was starting to set.
Yellow/orange hues can be seen in the sky!

The skywalk had 3 different types of flooring: glass, grids and wood.
I felt perfectly fine on the glass one.
The grids were next level man.
Walking on them made me a little scared.

After the skywalk, we slowly made our way back to Mipo station via the pavements just below the sky capsule tracks.
If you have time, you can go beyond the skywalk via Haeundae blue line train or walk.
However, we were not keen on that.

The walk back was absolutely stunning with the sunset!

There was a tunnel near Mipo station which had a photo spot.
Like other tourists, we spent some time there to take photos!

We took about 45 minutes to reach Mipo station, a little longer due to the time spent taking photos.
Haeundae beach had a night light festival which started in end November and we had to go for it!

When we were walking along the beach earlier in the day, we saw a notice stating "2,000".
We didn't translate it and assumed that we had to pay 2,000 krw to enter.
We were wrong.
It was free!

I swear, Koreans are super good at these.
The lights were so pretty and there were many photo spots along the path.
All for free, unlike the Christmas wonderland in Singapore...

After experiencing the light festival, we walked to main square where Haeundae market was.

Haeundae market

At that point, my nose was dripping like no tomorrow due to the cold.
But nothing could stop me from having hotteok haha.
My favourite street food in Korea.

We found a famous stall at the end of the market.
The queue was long and we waited for at least 20 minutes before we got our hotteok.

I got the seed hotteok (2,000 krw) while Zhi Sheng got the honey hotteok (1,500 krw).
This was the best hotteok I had in this trip.
I am still thinking of it as I type this man.
Absolutely delicious, yums!

Although the hotteok warmed me up a little, my nose refused to cooperate.
That's when we decided to leave Haeundae and settle for cup ramen with egg in our cosy hotel room.

And that's it for day 7!
