South Korea 2022 Day 5: Jeju

 DAY 5: 30 NOV 2022

Today is our last full day in Jeju!
We will be exploring west Jeju today, starting with Yongmeori Coast.

View from our living room

Before checking out, we had our discounted Hueilot pastries for breakfast.

I got the Pain Au Chocolat while Zhi Sheng got a waffle.
Although the Pain Au Chocolat was delicious, it was a mess when eating.
The chocolate bits were falling to the ground with every bite.

After breakfast, we said goodbye to our lovely duplex apartment and drove to Yongmeori Coast.

View of Yongmeori Coast

Unfortunately for us, Yongmeori Coast (용머리해안) was undergoing maintenance when we arrived.
There was a notice put up in Korean and we used the translator app to make sense of the notice.
Instead, we drove back to a nearby stretch of road as they had some nice viewpoints of the coast.
We parked for free at the lots along the road, just in front of the entrance to Sangbangsan temple.

Upon crossing the road, we walked along the pathways for some nice views of the mountains and coast.
There is a signal tower which you could climb up too.

After half an hour, we decided to move onto our next destination:
Osulloc Tea Museum (오설록 티 뮤지엄)
We parked at the huge open-air carpark across the museum.
Sadly, the tea museum was undergoing renovation and will only be ready for visitors in 2023.
Nevertheless, the tea shop and eatery were still open.
I bought 3 different types of tea and each box contains 20 teabags.

A short walk away is Innisfree Jeju House (이니스프리 제주하우스).
At the Innisfree side, there is an Innisfree store and an eatery too.
You will also see tea fields right next to it!

The prices at the store were comparable to what we can get online in Singapore.
I didn't get any products there.

Instead, Zhi Sheng and I did a pretty fun activity together: DIY soap making
I bought a DIY volcanic pore soap kit for 20,000 krw.
It comes with 2 soap bars, powder depending on the soap scent you want and packaging.
We made 2 different soap bars using the materials provided.
You can make 3 smaller soap bars too.

After payment, you will choose a working area and follow the instructions on the ipad.
You start by kneading the soap bars to a spherical shape, filling up any holes at the same time.
Once done, you make a pothole in the middle, pour some scent powder and knead it again.
Repeat this process till the powder is well-mixed with the soap.
Shape it like a sphere and then proceed to shape it to what you want!

Our final products

I shaped my soap into a heart!
Zhi Sheng tried to shape his but he was struggling.
So, I took over and shaped it into a circle.
His soap was super soft and easy to shape as compared to mine.

We spent at least 30 minutes at the diy station.
Along the way, more visitors joined us at the stations.
Once we were done, we headed to the bathrooms to wash our hands and got our lunch at the eatery.

Hanyeo Basket Brunch

We got a set which came with the basket brunch and a drink for less than 20,000 krw.
I enjoyed the basket brunch and it was rather filling due to the carbs.

We then drove to Aewol for some cafe hopping.
There were many cafes in Aewol and we have such a hard time narrowing down the cafes to go.
We narrowed down to 2 cafes located close to each other.

During the drive there, I was reading Google reviews about the cafe and some commented that it was difficult to find parking here.
When we turned into a lane near our cafe, we spotted a carpark.
However, like most carparks here, they are not free and you have to use a card for payment.
We were not keen on paying for parking using our card so we drove around the area to find alternatives.
Thankfully, we found a few parking lots near Bomnal cafe which were free!

Kiddy rides owned by the cafe

Our first cafe was Cafe Knotted (노티드 제주)!
I first found out about this cafe when watching Mongabong's Jeju travel IG stories.
The cafe is huge!
It has an indoor area with claw machines and dine-in tables as well as an outdoor area for dining and kiddy rides.
This cafe is famous for their donuts and they did not impose the 1 drink per person here.
When you enter the premises, you will notice two entrances: Dine-in or take out.
If you are dining in, please enter from the dine-in entrance and find a table on the second floor before you order.
This is because before ordering, the counter staff will ask if you have a table.
It took us a while to get a table but we finally got one after 10 - 15 minutes of waiting.

We got two donuts: Milk cream donut (3,500 krw) and Jeju green tangerine donut (3,500 krw)
The milk cream was lightweight and not too sweet.
The green tangerine cream had a tint of sourness which complimented the sugar on the outside.
We people watched as we ate our donuts.
When there were more groups searching for tables, we decided to make our way to another cafe.

Lazy Pump Cafe

Our next cafe is called Lazy Pump and it was 8 minutes' walk away from Cafe Knotted.
We were walking as fast as we could because the winds were strong, making it extra cold.
Thank goodness we decided to come to this cafe because this is my favourite Jeju cafe.

The ordering and pick up counters are located on level 1 and we ordered two drinks.
The staff issued a buzzer and we headed to the dine in areas located on level 2 and 3.

View from level 2

The tables next to the windows were all occupied on level 2.
Luckily, we found a table next to the window on level 3.

Drinks with sea view

View from our table

Look at this amazing view!
We watched the moving clouds and crashing waves while enjoying our drinks.

When you are here, you must take photos at the famous photo spot on level 3.
I love the huge windows and the industrial decor of the cafe.

After enjoying our drinks, it was time to say goodbye to this lovely cafe.
Before leaving the area, we walked to Randy's donut to get some donuts for tomorrow's breakfast!

The normal glazed donuts were all sold out.
So the both of us got the coconut ones instead.

As the sun was setting soon, we headed back to our car and drove to our last airbnb in this trip:
Burning Rest Pension (버닝레스트팬션 민박)
This was our most expensive airbnb in Jeju and we paid S$130 for a night.
This is a 2-storey studio apartment with a floor to ceiling window and a bedroom on the second floor.

The host was very responsive on Airbnb and we were able to find the pension easily with the address given to us.
Check in was smooth and we got to enjoy the sea views for a while before darkness set in.

Our pension was surrounded by farms.
During summer, there is a swimming pool for visitors to enjoy.

For tonight's dinner, we decided to have one last black pork bbq before leaving Jeju.
I found a bbq restaurant called 애월리식당.
It was 540m from our pension but we decided to drive there because of the cold.
As it was still early, there was only one group dining when we entered.
I also spotted another black pork bbq restaurant opposite us but they barely had any customers as the Naver ratings were slightly lower than the one we were at.

Restaurant menu

We ordered 600g of black pork meat (63,000 krw) which was the standard option.
The staff helped to grill our meat too.
The meat was juicy but the one we had at the start of our trip was better due to the use of briquette.

After our dinner, we walked to CU convenience store just 100m away from the restaurant.
I was super glad that we drove to the restaurant because we were freezing just walking that 100m.

I had a can of Jeju ale paired with my favourite fish ice cream!
We also bought the Jeju umu ice cream to try as this brand is popular in Jeju.

While I was having my daily dose of IG reels, Zhi Sheng had a round of DOTA.
And that's how we ended our last night in my favourite Jeju airbnb!
