South Korea 2022 Day 10: Seoul
DAY 10: 5 DEC 2022
Po Tid Cafe |
Another day has begun!
Today, we explored Sinchon and Hongdae area.
Zhi Sheng did a university exchange programme in Yonsei University and he brought me around Ewha and Yonsei campuses.
We took a train to Ewha Womans University.
Before exploring the campus, we had breakfast at Isaac Toast!
My dad used to buy the toasts for us while he took his morning walks at Myeongdong.
It was definitely nostalgic for me because our family enjoyed the toasts a lot.
If I remembered clearly, I got the ham & cheese toast while Zhi Sheng got the bulgogi toast!
Ewha campus |
After filling our bellies, we explored the Ewha campus!
The campus reminded me a lot of my US exchange school, UCONN.
UCONN's campus is prettier though.
I miss the lake and the hill up to the farm.
We exited via one of the back gates to get to Yonsei University.
Along the way to Yonsei, we passed a bakery and it was the same bakery which Zhi Sheng patronised while he was studying there.
This boy was reminiscing the past while picking out his bread.
When we entered Yonsei campus, we spotted trees with autumn leaves! |
Another reason why we came to the university was for Zhi Sheng to purchase the Yonsei T-shirt.
However, the coop started undergoing renovation 2 days ago...
So, no T-shirt for him :/
We continued to explore the hipster Sinchon area.
The both of us entered a TopTen 10 store and got an item each, although mine was for my dad.
Zhi Sheng got a sweater in a nice shade of dark brown for 19,900 krw.
After exploring the area, we went for a late lunch at Tally.
I first got to know about Tally through an IG story and this cafe specialises in bagels.
The cafe's interior was designed like an old American diner.
I got the salmon and cream cheese bagel while Zhi Sheng got the scrambled eggs bagel.
Both bagels were under 10,000 krw each.
The bagels were alright, nothing fantastic.
There is another cafe called London Bagel Museum and you can give this a shot instead!
We then walked to another cafe to have drinks!
Po Tid Cafe is a Harry Potter themed cafe which resembles Ollivander's wand shop on the outside.
We got a table in the innermost section which was decorated with broomsticks and framed photos.
They were playing Harry Potter soundtracks during our time there too.
There is an alleyway with potion cupboards on each side which leads to the bathrooms.
As a Harry Potter fan, I enjoyed this cafe a lot.
There is another Harry Potter themed cafe in Seoul called 943 King's Cross which you could visit too!
We then slowly made our way to Hongdae shopping street.
There were many local stores selling clothes and accessories.
However, most clothing stores are selling apparels for winter which I was not interested in.
If you are travelling to Korea/Japan and need winter wear, it will be better to purchase it there rather than Singapore as it is cheaper!
There were a few buskers along the shopping streets.
We stopped to listen to one who sang really well in the cold and another duo who danced to BTS's Dynamite.
After window shopping, we made our way to our dinner place:
Shin Migyeong Hongdae Dakgalbi (신미경 홍대닭갈비)
Zhi Sheng found this place on Google Maps.
We got a table immediately when we entered.
Before we even ordered, the staff proceeded to make green onion pancakes on our pan.
What happens if we decided not to eat here and leave?
But anyway, we chose 2 servings of chicken dakgalbi (26,000 krw) and added 1 serving of ramen (2,000 krw).
We chose mild spicy (their baby level) because we cannot handle spicy food well.
You can also go with the cheese option or add fried rice at the end of your meal.
The staff helped to stir fry the chicken, vegetables and ramen.
The food was delicious and the spiciness was just right.
We had dakgalbi again the next day and I preferred the Hongdae one.
And that's it for day 10!
