Perth 2022 Day 8: Perth City

   DAY 8: 16 JUN 2022

Blue boathouse

Our last day in Perth before flying home.
We haven't had the chance of exploring Perth city itself, so we decided to do so today!

First up on our list is Kings Park and Botanic Gardens.
We took the free blue CAT bus and alighted at Wadjuk Way.

State War Memorial

Upon alighting, we spotted a really tall structure right in front of us, which was part of the state war memorial.

The weather was perfect for a picnic and we saw many having picnics around the park.
Not for us though, as the real reason for coming to kings park was to have brunch haha.
We took a 20 minutes walk to our brunch place, Cooee, which oversees the Swan River.

Along the way, we found this really pretty photo spot at Kokoda Track!
A friendly jogger volunteered to take a photo for the three of us.
Hence, this photo (:

Anyway, the decor of the restaurant was really sleek and gave off the bali vibe.
We chose the outdoor seats which overlooked the river.

We were lucky to arrive just before the brunch session ended.
We quickly decided on our mains and ordered before the kitchen closed.
Since it was our last day in Perth, we had to order a cup of coffee each.
I ordered a cup of latte as usual and avocado on toast!
After making avocado on toast on my own, I rarely order avocado on toast at cafes because the prices are so inflated.
What made me order it this time was the cheaper price compared to that in Singapore cafes.
The dish was good though!

During our brunch, we video called Amanda who just came back from her Phuket climbing trip.
She couldn't join us this time round because of the climbing trip, but it's okay, there are many more travel opportunities together in future anyway!

After brunch, we took a 30 minutes walk to the famous blue boathouse.
On our way there, we spotted a raft of ducks in the river, attempting to get on land to cross the road.
However, there was another bird which seemed rather intimidating to the ducks and the ducks gave up on their road crossing attempt.
It would have been interesting to see the ducks cross the busy highway though.

When we finally arrived at the blue boathouse, we were disappointed to see that the boardwalk was mostly submerged due to high tides.
That was probably the reason why there wasn't much of a crowd when we arrived and we could take our time to snap our photos.
Nevertheless, the front of the boardwalk was still dry and we stood there!

There was a little viewpoint at the right of the boardwalk and we headed to that area after we were done taking photos at the boardwalk.
A crowd started to form after some time and people had to wait to get their photos taken.
Satisfied with our photos, we left the blue boathouse and headed to a bus stop near UWA to get to Northbridge!

What is there to see in Northbridge?
Actually, nothing caught our attention while researching except for...churros!
Phoebe's family said that churros is a must in Perth and we must tick this off our food list.

We took the free CAT buses to get to Northbridge.
San Churro seemed to be well-established in Perth with a few branches located across the city.
However, they were lacking in staff at the Northbridge branch.
We only saw 1 staff during our time there.

San Churro Northbridge

Hot chocolate

We ordered the churros for two set to share and it came with 6 churros and 2 dips of our choice.
All these for 18 AUD.
The churros tasted like any other churros we had, nothing fantastic or bad about it.
Michelle ordered a cup of hot chocolate to go with her churros (:

Thereafter, we headed to the shopping districts for some last minute shopping.
Shopping here is rather underwhelming.
We did manage to get something for ourselves at K-mart though.
Phoebe and I got the same everlast black crop tee while Michelle bought a cap to add to her big cap/hat collection back home.

After shopping for a while, we decided to head back to our hotel to collect our bags and leave for the airport.
At first, I thought it will be too early to head to the airport as the check in counters only open 3 hours before our flight.
I was glad that we joined the queue 3.5 hours before our flight as there was a shortage of airport staff and only 1 counter was open when check in was available.
The queue spilled beyond the demarcated areas after we checked in.

We proceeded to have dinner at Hungry Jack's before passing the baggage check area.
It was then that Michelle stepped and slipped on a tiny french fry!
What are the odds...
My goodness, I laughed till I teared.
Truly a moment to remember.
Just like how I fell off my seat during a bus ride in Sydney ahahaha.

And this marks the end of another wonderful trip with the girls!
To many more trips with them <3
