Scandinavia 2019 Day 6: Helsinki, Finland

DAY 6: 1 DEC 2019
Aleksanterinkatu street
It's time to say goodbye to a lovely country.
We woke up at 0300 to pack up and leave for our 0430 flybus.
I booked our flybus ticket via klook and paid around S$30 per pax for a departure at BSI terminal.
The BSI terminal was a 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
However, I would advise you to book the bus stop pick up option during winter
as the pavements were icy and made it difficult to get around with the luggages.
We took double the time to reach the bus terminal!
I'm just glad that we checked out at 0400 and we made it without falling.

The bus took 50 minutes to get to the airport.
We had to do a self check in at the machines located in the departure hall.
We had to do self check ins via these machines for all our flights this trip.
We got our boarding passes and baggage tags through the machine.
The baggage tags were tricky and I had to ask a stranger, who was really kind, for assistance.
Since then, we became experts with the baggage tags.

Christmas Display at the Reykjavik Airport
Our flight to Helsinki had a 1 hour 15 minutes connection at Copenhagen.
I initially freaked out as it was a short connection and was afraid of missing our flight.
Thankfully, we were flying from and to Schengen countries which means that we do not
need to go through passport control at Copenhagen airport.
Upon arriving in Copenhagen, we headed straight to our next departure gate with ample
time to spare.
Our boarding passes were valid for both flights:
KEF-CPH and CPH-HEL
So, there is no need to print another boarding pass!

When we arrived in Helsinki airport, we only needed to go through baggage claims.
Then, we were out at the arrival hall!
We took the train (either P or I) and arrived at Helsinki station after 30 minutes.
You will need to purchase your train tickets either at the ticketing machines (credit card)
or via the HSL app.
A one way trip (ABC zone) costs 4.60 eur.

I was a little lost when we arrived at Helsinki station.
It took us about 15 minutes to get to our hotel as google maps gave us a longer route.
Nevertheless, I was happy that we safely arrived!
Our stay for the night is at Hotel Arthur which is, by right, only a 5 minutes walk to the train station.

It was 1730 when we arrived and most of the shops close at 1800 on Sundays.
Famished, we walked to our dinner place: Cafe Bar No. 9!

This place serves handmade pasta and there were many good reviews about them online.
I ordered the lemon pasta and it tasted similar to carbonara but with a little citrus added!
Very interesting!
I forgot what my mum ordered...but the total bill was 21 eur!
Cheaper than Iceland (:

Christmas candy cane for sale

dinner, we walked around Aleksanterinkatu street,
which is the famous shopping street decorated with beautiful Christmas lightings!
The departmental store, Stockmann, had two beautiful Christmas window displays.
We also popped by S-market located next to the train station to see what they offer.
And..I found my Appelsin drink! 😍

That's it for day 6!
