Scandinavia 2019 Day 10: Helsinki, Finland

DAY 10: 5 DEC 2019

The times we spent in Rovaniemi was straight out of a fairytale.
Unfortunately, we were heading back to Helsinki today.
Our flight departs at 1200.
The two common ways to get to the airport from the city centre is to take either
the airport transfer or Santa's Express.
We chose Santa's Express as the airport transfer gave us limited time to check in
at the airport prior to our flight.
The Santa's Express stops at the airport after Santa Claus Village.
Do let the driver know that you are heading to the airport as the bus may not stop at the airport
unless necessary at certain timings.

As it rained last evening, the roads and paths were very slushy and icing.
It was so difficult to walk to the railway station because of it.
We took double the time to get to the station without falling.

The journey to the airport was smooth and we paid 3.50 euros each for the ride.
When we arrived at the airport at 1000, we were greeted by the snaking line at the check in area.
It was a small airport and only 2 counters were open.
There were at least 30 people ahead of us when we first joined the queue.
Many were seen checking in their skis and
I am guessing they visited the famous ski resort in Rovaniemi.
After 45 minutes of waiting, we completed our check in smoothly and
proceeded to our gate for departure.

We arrived in Helsinki at around 1345 as our flight was delayed slightly due to the icy runway.
We didn't need to go through immigration since it was a domestic flight.
We stayed at the same hotel, Hotel Arthur, and we took the shorter route
from the station to the hotel which we discovered previously.
As the Finnish Independence Day was tomorrow, most of the shops will be closed.
So, we decided to shop today and go for sightseeing tomorrow.

Burgers from Friends & Brgrs
My favourite Icelandic Skyr
We had Friends & Brgrs for dinner tonight.
I must say the burgers were as good as Shake Shack's!
We made a trip to the supermarket one last time to buy chocolates back as gifts!
Karl Fazer chocolates are must and the blueberry flavour is the best out of all the flavours we bought.
Because we were in love with the blueberry juice Finnair served us for all our flights,
we bought 2 packets of blueberry juice home!

Ice skating rink outside the railway station
That's it for day 10!
