Sydney 2019 Day 4: Kiama Blowhole & Gosang's Tunnel

DAY 4: 20 JUN 2019
View from Gosang's Tunnel
Rise and shine!
Since we were by the beach, we decided to start our day by catching the sun rise!

Sunrise at Corrimal Beach

Our first destination was to visit Kiama, which is famous for its blowhole.
It took us about 40 minutes to arrive in the town of Kiama.

Driving along the highway
It was a small town, with many quaint little shops along the main street.
As we were rather tight for time due to the long drives later, we decided to
spend time at the blowhole only.

There were actually parking lots at the blowhole, but we just grabbed a vacant lot
at the main shopping stretch of the town.
Our lot had 2 hours of free parking, which was more than enough.
Do note that the free parking duration differs for every lot, so do check the board for
the information.

Pelicans on the boardwalk
Spot the huge stingray!
While making our way to the blowhole, we spotted huge pelicans on the boardwalk.
Seeing that we were interested in the pelicans, a man told us to also look into the waters.
And we spotted a giant wild stingray!
It was really cool to see them in the wild and I was really glad we did not park right outside
the blowhole.

Walk up to the blowhole by the waters

Kiama Rock Pool
Along the way, we spotted a rock pool!
Imagine the amazing view you get when you swim in a rock pool.

Kiama Blowhole
The blowhole was nice and it was kind of fun to guess when a big surge will come.
You will probably spend about 10 minutes there (:

Our next destination was Gosang's Tunnel, located near Jervis Bay.
This time, I took the wheel!
I chanced upon this hidden gem while browsing through Instagram.
I went online to read more about this place and managed to find a blogpost which
had detailed hiking instructions to Gosang's Tunnel!

We drove for 1.5 hours, adding a drive-thru stop at Macdonalds for our lunch.
The drive-thru was really cool, with dual lanes instead of a single lane in Singapore.
After making your order at the window, you will move forward to another window
to make payment.
Thereafter, you will proceed to a waiting lane and a staff will walk out to pass you your items!
The staff gave us a free small coke because...why not? (:

The other two filled their tummies while I continued to drive to our destination,
with Amanda feeding me with fries along the way.
We parked at Abrahams Bosom Reserve carpark for free and we did not need to
pay any entrance fee.
If you are lucky, you could spot wild kangaroos at the carpark.

Along our hiking route, the ground was muddy and huge puddles of water were formed
in the middle of the path which made it difficult to walk.
We arrived at the entrance to Gosang's Tunnel after 45 minutes.
A notice was placed just before the entrance, advising visitors that
"access beyond this point is at your own risk".

Narrow entrance to the cliff side
To get to the cliff side, you will need to duck walk or crawl about 10 to 15 metres as
the entrance was tiny!
There was no way you could stand up and walk to the other side.
However, all that hard work paid off when the crawl ended.

The view of the South Pacific Ocean was stunning!
The waters were crystal clear like always.
During whale watching seasons, there is a chance of spotting whales from the tunnel too.
As usual, we were the only ones there and we spent some time here before
moving on to the Mermaid's Inlet.

Mermaid's Inlet
Since we had time, we decided to visit Mermaid's Inlet too.
The view from the top was amazing!

We did not climb down as recommended by the blogpost as the waves were
rough that day and we would need to climb back up after that.
After enjoying the view from atop, we made our way back to carpark.

Being the klutz, I stepped right into the mud during our hike back to the car.
*facepalm*
So, one of my shoes was almost covered entirely by mud.
Thankfully, I managed to wipe off most of it and only a teeny bit seeped into my shoe.

It was a 2.5 hours drive to Narooma, our base tonight.
Michelle took the wheel as she is the most confident among us.
Our home for the night is Narooma Golfers Lodge, run by a retired couple.
We booked a one-bedroom apartment which was really nice.
The heater was working well, shower was great, the bed was so comfy.
As we had a kitchen, we decided to cook dinner instead of eating out.

After a smooth check in, we headed to our favourite supermarket, Woolworths.
We prepared steak, mashed potatoes, salad and not forgetting our beloved Campbell soup!
