Sydney 2019 Day 3: Blue Mountains & Royal National Park

DAY 3: 19 JUN 2019
Eagle rock at Royal National Park
Today's itinerary is packed with lots of driving and hiking.
We decided to leave early today as we wanted to visit the Wentworth Falls before
leaving Blue Mountains.
We drove for 10 minutes and arrived at the Wentworth Falls Picnic Area (free parking).
This was a good starting point as there were many trails available.
We chose the easier trail as we had a long day ahead of us.

Unfortunately, the waterfall was a disappointment.
There wasn't much water flowing down the cliff and it could be due to the lack of rainfall.
Nevertheless, the view at the lookouts made up for it.

From there, we drove to the Royal National Park for about 2 hours 15 minutes.
All visitors are required to pay a park fee of A$12 per vehicle per day.
Our main aim of visiting the park is to hike to the eagle rock.
We parked at Wattamolla Beach and had a quick lunch by the beach before our long hike.

Based on the information provided on this website,
you could either start from the coast track or walk towards the Providential Point Lookout.
The entire return trip was estimated take 3 hours long.
However, it took us 2.5 hours just to get to the eagle head rock as we stopped
to take photos rather often and there were a lot of sections which are steep.

The signages at the Wattamolla carpark were unclear so
we went to the Providential Point Lookout instead.
The views of the water were amazing!

The paths were clear and easy to follow.
There were times when we wanted to turn back and return to the beach as
we were afraid we would not make it back to the car before sunset.
However, we pushed on and finally reached our destination!

The waves were crashing into the cliff which made it possible to capture a rainbow
together with the eagle head rock!
We spent a short while sitting by the cliff, admiring the view right in front of our eyes.
At last, it was time to head back.
The journey back took us only an hour as it was mostly going down the slopes we climbed.
Thankfully, we got back to the car before sunset.
Oh yes, toilets were located next to the starting point of the track from the carpark!

It was my turn to drive and I am very glad that I had the two of them who trusted me
and navigated super well.
I drove for an hour to our home for the night:

We arrived at around 5.45pm and it was really dark by then.
The tourist park is kind of catered for those who are camping as the rooms are actually cabins
and there are designated areas for camper vans too.
Our cabin had a bedroom with a queen bed, a corridor with a bunk bed and a kitchen/living room.
Since we had a kitchen, we decided to cook our dinner again.
We bought our groceries and breakfast items from Woolworths.
Whenever we travel, we always settled for tortellini and campbell soup for dinner (:

Right after dinner, we decided to spend some time at the beach
in hopes of seeing the milky way.
However, the moon was shining brightly in the sky that night which made it
difficult to see the milky way even though the sky was clear.
Nevertheless, we decided to try out long exposure shots by drawing letters with flashlights.
The results were not too bad!

And that's it for day 3!
