Sydney 2019 Day 2: Blue Mountains

DAY 2: 18 JUN 2019
The Three Sisters at Blue Mountains
Good morning!
We woke up early as we needed to collect our rental car at 10am today.
We left our bags at the concierge upon checking out and headed to The Rusty Rabbit
for breakfast.

Breakfast wrap
Cafe Latte
We rented our car from East Coast Car Rentals and we got a Toyota Corolla for our road trip.
After all the paperwork, we walked to an alley to collect our car.
Michelle took the wheel as we were still in the city.
We drove back to the hotel to get our luggage and off we went to Blue Mountains!

The drive was close to 1 hour 45 minutes due to road works.
The drive was definitely scenic as we were constantly climbing to higher grounds.
We arrived at Katoomba past noon.
Our home for the night was Blue Mountains Backpacker Hostel and we booked
a triple private room with shared bathroom.
This was our cheapest accomodation for the entire trip and it cost S$60 for the room.
That being said, the room was really tiny and it was impossible to open
all our luggages at the same time.

We had a quick lunch at a diner nearby before driving and parking at Scenic World (free parking).
We took the Prince Henry Cliff Walk which was one of the commonly used trails.

The scenic railway was under construction during our visit and
we decided not to purchase any scenic world package.
The walk took us close to 2 hours to arrive at the Echo Point lookout
as there were many view points along the trail.

By the time we were done at Echo Point, it was close to 4.40pm.
As it was winter, the sun starts to set as early as 5pm.
Michelle wasn't feeling well at the start of our trip so Amanda and I decided to
head back together to get the car at Scenic World.
We were deciding between walking back via the trail or the main roads and
we chose the former.
It turned out to be a bad decision.

Sunset on the way back to Scenic world via the trail
The both of us walked back as fast as we could.
The sky turned really dark at around 5.15pm and we were about 10 minutes
away from Scenic World.
We turned on the flashlight on our phones as we could not see the paths clearly.
We followed the signs and went deeper down the trail.
However, it was pitch black and I did not remember venturing down so much during the day.
Worst of all, there was no network or signal.
With all the sounds made by the birds and animals in the dark,
it got scary and we decided to head back up to the big parking lot we spotted earlier.
From there, we took a 10 minutes walk along the main road and safely made it back to our car.
So lesson learnt: walk by the main road!

We drove to Echo Point to pick Michelle up and we decided to cook our dinner
at the hostel since a kitchen was available.
We headed to Woolworths (free parking) to purchase what we needed as well as our breakfast items!

We definitely saved quite a fair bit when we cook as the meals in Sydney are
at least A$15 or more per person.
Amanda and I had yoghurt almost every day for breakfast.
We bought Dairy Farmers' Thick and Creamy yoghurt as it was selling at A$1 which is
1/3 the price sold in Singapore!

Long drives were ahead of us tomorrow, so this marked the end of Day 2!
