Bali 2018 Day 4 & 5: Ubud & Seminyak

DAY 4: 3 SEP 2018
Tegalalang Rice Terraces
Rise and shine!
Another day of adventure has begun.
We planned to do a day trip to Ubud and we booked our driver via Klook for S$42.
If you would like to be able to converse in English with your driver,
you might be better off finding a driver on your own based on the recommendations online.
Our driver, Mr Putu, could hardly speak English despite the fact that I requested
for a driver who could converse well in English.
Other than the language barrier, our trip to Ubud was rather smooth and
he waited patiently for us at every stop.

Our first stop was Campuhan Ridge Walk.
This was something new to me and I was looking forward to this when I planned the itinerary.

Being a clutz, my left foot got caught in a pothole and I lost my footing.
So, my right knee was scratched and there was a little bleeding.
Nevertheless, I didn't want this to ruin my holiday and it only hurt just a little.
So, we continued the ridge walk and were greeted by lovely sights!

It took us about 1.5 hours to get back to the starting point, inclusive of breaks.
It is an easy walk and you should definitely try it if you are in Ubud.

Our next stop is the Ubud traditional art market, with a quick visit to Ubud Palace.

Ubud Palace
Dreamcatchers in Ubud market
Ubud market was packed with many intricate items made in Bali, from
wood crafts, dreamcatchers to rattan bags!
The first price quoted is usually very high and you will need to bargain.
I bought a white circular  rattan bag from the bazaar at Seminyak Square for 200,000 Rp.
However, the ones in Ubud market were going for at least 250,000 Rp after bargaining.
So, I settled for another brown circular rattan bag at the bazaar.

We bought coasters and bamboo straws as souvenirs.
We were quoted 40,000 Rp for 1 coaster initially.
Eventually we bargained and paid 120,000 Rp for 7 coasters
Some cafes we visited used bamboo straws and I really liked it.
I managed to get two packs of bamboo straws for 90,000 Rp.
Her first quote to me was 100,000 Rp for one pack.
Crazy.

We were getting hungry and we decided to have lunch at Bebek Tepi Sawah,
a restaurant with a lovely view of mini rice fields.

View from our hut at Bebek Tepi Sawah
The restaurant was huge and we got the entire hut to ourselves as we were early.
We ordered the famous crispy duck (135,000 Rp) and Nasi Campur to share.
The portions were generous and we took our time to enjoy the view right in front of us.

The bill came up to about S$33 for two pax which is definitely cheaper than what
would have cost us in Singapore.
There is another restaurant famous for crispy duck, known as Bebek Bengil.
So, keep your options open!

We headed to Tegalalang Rice Terraces after lunch.
It was a 30 minutes drive from Bebek Tepi Sawah.
The entrance fee was 10,000 Rp per pax and donations will be encouraged when you meet
the farmers on the way up the terraces.

This place has commercialised so much within 3 years.
Bali swing is the hottest attraction at the rice terraces and there are different spots
for you to choose.
We were contented with exploring the rice terraces and this time round, I wasn't alone!
The climb up the rice terraces was relatively easy but going back up to the main road
was such a challenge, especially with my injured knee.

We got a seat at one of the cafes overlooking the rice terraces and the views were amazing too.
I loved the fact that there is no minimum charge and we could just get drinks
to cool ourselves down.

We initially planned to visit a waterfall called Tukad Cepung Waterfall.
However, we didn't have much time as it was 4pm when we left the rice terraces
and my knee wasn't in my best condition to climb over boulders.
So, we decided to return back to Seminyak and requested to end our trip at Naughty Nuri's.

Spare Pork Ribs
The ride took close to 2 hours and we finally arrived at Naughty Nuri's.
This place is famous for their pork ribs and it was really awesome!
The meat was juicy and soft and the sauce was really good too.
Our last dinner in Bali and a sweet end to our holiday (:

 DAY 5: 4 SEP 2018

Unfortunately, it was time to leave Bali.
Our flight was at 2.30pm and we had some time before leaving for the airport.
We decided to have brunch at the famous cafe, Sisterfields,
which was a 2 minutes walk from our hotel.

The cafe was bustling with life as most seats were occupied by 9am.
Hot Chocolate
Smashed Avocado on Toast with Poached Eggs
Pancakes and Berries
We each ordered a cup of hot chocolate (40,000 Rp).
I ordered the smashed avocado (105,000 Rp) yet again as many cafes do not serve this in Singapore.
My friend chose the Pancakes and Berries (105,000 Rp) which was really good!
You should definitely visit this cafe when you visit Seminyak (:

It was time to say goodbye to this beautiful place.
Still missing the carefree life I had while typing this.
Till next time, Bali!
