Grad Trip Day 18 & 19: Prague, Czech Republic

DAY 18: 5 JUNE 2014
We left our apartment at 5.30am to head to Nepliget bus station to catch our bus to Prague.
We bought the tickets online under eurolines company because there was a promotion.
We took the M2 line straight to Nepliget station, and went on to find our gate for boarding.
It was a 7 hour bus ride, and we packed food up the bus because we will
definitely be hungry at some point.

We finally arrived in Prague at around 1.45pm.
It took us quite a while to get to our apartment because we took the wrong turn.
But we eventually got there and settled down before leaving to explore the area.
Our apartment is located in Prague 1 and it is just 15 minutes walk from the old town.
Old Town Square
I really liked the vibe at the old town square even though it was packed with tourists.
There were many buskers around that brought energy to the square.
Food tents were set up at one corner of the square and the smell of the barbecue food
and snacks constantly drew us in.
Astronomical Clock
We managed to catch the astronomical clockwork show while strolling around in old town.
This show, also known as "The Walk of the Apostles" is really quick, and I feel that it is
only worth watching just once.
We continued to wander the streets in old town and finally decided to return
to our apartment for a night's rest.

DAY 19: 6 JUNE 2014
Fully recharged, we headed out to explore the other parts of Prague!
We chanced upon this little section where swans were resting by the river.
The swans were larger than I expected and they were really pretty!
Swans in Prague
Our first attraction in mind was the Prague Castle.
The Prague Castle, an ancient symbol of Czech Republic, is the most significant
monument in Czech Republic.

St. Vitus Cathedral
St. Vitus Cathedral is located within the Prague Castle district.
As this is a popular tourist site, we spent a little while queuing to enter the cathedral.
Inside the St. Vitus Cathedral
The interior of the cathedral is minimalist yet beautiful.
I really loved how stained glasses are incorporated into churches because it not only
adds colours to the interior but also tells a story.

We headed to one of the popular Czech restaurants which I found on tripadvisor.
I ordered Svickova, which is a typically Czech cuisine served with bread dumplings and sirloin.
Svíčková
I wasn't a fan of the dumplings, but the meat was cooked really well.
As usual, being in Eastern Europe, I couldn't resist in ordering a beer to go with my main.

So after lunch we continued our exploration.
Charles Bridge
This famous bridge in Prague houses 30 Baroque statues of religious figures.
During my visit, the bridge had so much human traffic that it was a little difficult to fully
enjoy its beauty.

We moved on to visit the parts outside of old town.
Michelle brought me to see the Fred Ginger House, also known as the Dancing House.
Dancing House
As you can see, the building design is really eccentric, and I really wonder how
the interior looks like.
It will probably look like any other building's interior since the building has to be functional,
but this is really intriguing!
Parliament Building
At the end of our sightseeing day, we decided to walk along the shopping streets.
There were many international brands there such as H&M and Zara.
So for those who need to do some retail therapy, this is the place you have to go.

And that marks the end of our time in Prague.
I would love to visit Czechy Krumlov if I had an extra day, but I shall leave it till my next
Eastern European adventure!
