Europe 2013 Day 9: Venice, Italy

DAY 9: 21 MAY 2013
We arrived in Venice Mestre at 10.25am, and took a five minutes walk to our
airbnb, Bebfranca Mestre.
Initially we were wondering if we arrived at the correct location since it
displayed 'Pension house' right outside the door.
Nevertheless, we dragged our luggage up one floor and checked in at the
reception desk which was meant for the hotel located on that floor.
Like all hotels or hostels in Venice, we had to pay a city tax of 2.10 euros per night.

After checking in, we followed the directions given by the owner of the bnb
and took bus 2 into Venezia.
We did not have any specific routes to take in Venice.
We basically got 'lost' in Venice!

Streets of Venezia

Handmade Venice mask display
One of the many Venice mask pushcarts
Water taxis and canals
The main transportation option in Venice
Piazza San Marco

Pigeon love in Italy

Street artist at work
Gondolas
A ride on the gondola costs 80 euros, and those riding on the gondolas
were mainly tourists who joined a tour group.
We were all unwilling to pay for that hefty price, and were perfectly fine
with missing out on this experience!
5kg bottles of Nutella
Clock tower
We left Venezia at around 9.30pm, and the sun has already set by then.
We returned to our room at around 10pm that night and creepy things started
happening at midnight, with lots of door banging and footsteps along the corridor.
These activities lasted for two hours, which kind of scared Amanda and I.
Nevertheless, we managed to sleep after that as we were dead tired from all the
walking and no water taxi!
