Japan 2018 Day 3: Kyoto

DAY 3: 24 NOV 2018
Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
We woke up with our legs sore from all the walking yesterday.
It's another day of adventure and we will be exploring Arashiyama today!

We took a train to Saga Arashiyama station and arrived at around 8am.
From the station, we took a 10 minutes' walk to the bamboo forest.

To be honest, I was expecting a longer trail for the bamboo forest.
There were other trails but they were condoned off for rickshaw tours.
Oh well, at least I have experienced it!

Since we completed the bamboo forest rather quickly, we took a left turn and wandered around.
We chanced upon a sign that directed us to a viewpoint.
We took the chance and we were awed by the view!

View of the river from above
The colours were rather vibrant when we were there but it is definitely not at its peak.
But isn't this beautiful?

We decided to visit Tenryuji temple, located just next to the bamboo forest, for their autumn colours.
At 400 yen for its entrance fee, we explored the temple's gardens.

The colours were really pretty and there were many different parts of the garden to explore.
You could also visit the main halls of the temple for an additional fee.
Not a fan of cultural sights, we decided against it and headed to the river where togetsukyo bridge is.

Fruit dango
Strawberry daifu
There was so much to see and eat at Arashiyama.
An entire stretch of retail shops and restaurants can be found at the start of togetsukyo bridge.
You could actually spend an entire day exploring the street!

% Arabica coffee shop

When you are at Arashiyama, you must not forget to pop by the famous % Arabica
for a cup of coffee.
The queues will be long but it will be worth it.
I had a cafe latte for 500 yen and it was one of the best I had.

Unagi set
We had lunch at a restaurant located at near togetsukyo bridge and the prices were
reasonable for a tourist attraction.

After lunch, we decided to explore the area across the river,
which meant that we would need to cross the bridge.
Due to the huge crowd once again, we had to queue to get across the bridge...

It was close to 3pm and we decided to head back to Kyoto Station and
explore nearby malls, Bic Camera and Aeon mall.
As it was thanksgiving weekend, most of the shops are having black friday sales.
Definitely makes up for the constant queue and hustling with the crowd.

Conveyor belt sushi
For dinner, we settled for Sushi no Musashi, which is a popular conveyor belt sushi
located at Kyoto Station.
We were there slightly before dinner time and we still had to wait for at least 30 minutes.
This place is popular as most items go at 145 yen per plate (2 pieces of sushi).
There were a wide array of sushi to choose from and they offer takeouts too.
Definitely satisfied by cravings for sushi!
