Hong Kong 2018 Day 3: Macau

DAY 3: 10 JUN 2018
House of Dancing Water
It's time for a trip to Macau!
As we will be back for 2 nights' stay at Le Prabelle Hotel, we left our luggage there
and only brought day bags to Macau.

Polo bun with butter
We decided to have a simple breakfast at Kam Wah Restaurant.
There is a minimum order of 1 drink per person when you dine in.
I ordered a cup of milk tea to go with my polo bun.
The bun was crisp and sweet but not too overwhelming.

Thereafter, we took a train to Tsim Sha Tsui where the China-Macau ferry terminal was
situated at.
We booked the ferry tickets on Klook yet again as it is cheaper than purchasing
at the counter directly.
The ride took about an hour and we arrived in Macau!

There is no need for public transport or taxis in Macau as most of the major hotels
provide free shuttle services, especially at the ferry terminals.
As it was too early to check in, we decided to head to Senado Square first.
We boarded the Grand Lisboa shuttle as the stop was close to the square.
Grand Lisboa
Along the way to Senado Square, we passed by Margaret's Cafe e Nata which is
famous for its Portuguese egg tarts.
We bought 4 egg tarts for HK$10 each.
We bought the famous Tai Le Loi Kei pork chop bun to share,
but as expected, it is overrated and expensive.
Ruins of St Paul's
From Senado Square, we took a 15 minutes walk to Ruins of St Paul's.
It was scorching hot until it was a little unbearable.
We didn't explore the fort and headed back to the square for some snack shopping!
We patronised these two famous bakeries:
Pastelaria Yeng Kee
Ko Kei Bakery (famous for almond cookies)

The bakeries usually have discounts if you buy more.
I bought 3 boxes of almond cookies from Ko Kei and it costs me about HK$50 per box.
Expensive but it's Hong Kong.

After our quick shopping, we took a 25 minutes walk to our hotel: Rio Hotel.
The hotel is situated closer to the ferry terminal which means a far walk from the square.
Although the room was clean and comfortable,
I would prefer to stay near the vicinity of Grand Lisboa for convenience.

After checking in, we headed to the other side, Cotai.
Cotai is home to the major casinos, namely, The Venetian, MGM and Wynn.
The buildings are huge and grand which make you feel tiny and out of place.
To get to Cotai, we took the shuttle from Star World Casino to The Venetian.
As we wanted to visit Taipa village, we headed straight for the travellator.

Crab Porridge
The famous dish to try in Taipa village is the crab porridge.
We got the larger bowl which costs HK$240.
The serving is huge and it is enough for 4 people.

On top of the crab porridge, we tried Lord Stow's egg tarts, mochi and chamali fruit tea.
While typing this, I realised we did eat a lot.

Shoppes at The Venetian

I still remembered the first time visiting The Venetian, which was in Las Vegas.
It was so grand, vibrant and made me feel as though I was in a different world.

As we had time to kill while waiting for our show at 8pm,
we visited Wynn Palace which was a 15 minute walk away.
There was a complimentary cable car ride up to the hotel which was so amazing.
They had a water fountain show every 30 minutes too.
Unbelievable, but such things can happen in Macau.

Windmill art display in Wynn Palace
We caught a glimpse of the action happening in the Wynn casino.
I don't gamble so watching a table game was equivalent to watching a foreign movie
with no subtitles.
The minimum bets there are high and these people are really risk takers.
Sadly, I am risk averse.

It was finally time for the highlight of our Macau trip:
House of Dancing Water!

To be honest, till date, I have no idea what the story plot is.
However, the show was spectacular and every scene was fantastic.
The cinematic and acrobatic performances were to perfection and my eyes were
glued to the centre stage.

Motorcycle Performance

We bought the cheapest tickets at S$78 each on Klook.
We couldn't see the front stage at certain segments of the performances, but that was fine.
This is definitely a must watch in Macau and you should not miss it!

After the show, we headed to Wynn Palace to board the free shuttle to Wynn Macau.
We were in luck as we caught the water fountain show!

And that's it for my Hong Kong adventures!
