Taiwan 2017 Day 4: Addiction Aquatic Development, Tamsui & Shilin Night Market

DAY 4: 9 DEC 2017

Our last day in Taipei.
The only places on our list are Tamsui and Shilin Night Market.
So, we lazed in bed longer since we intend to cover these two places later in the day.

Since this was our last day in Taipei, we had to purchase our suncakes and mochi.
We walked to Hsin Tung Yang to purchase our gifts.
The products were slightly cheaper compared to the shops in the heart of Ximending.

As the shops in Taipei do not open till 11am, we headed back to our hotel to pack our luggages
before going out for lunch!

My mum's friend recommended us to try out Addiction Aquatic Development.
This place resembles Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market.
It was rather difficult to get to this place as there were no train stations nearby.
To get there, we took a train to Xingtian temple and walked for 20 minutes.

Sashimi sliced on the spot
Upon entering, you will first explore the live seafood section.
Thereafter, you will move off to where the food are.
There were tons of food available.
Seats were available inside if you wish to patronise the restaurant.
However, we decided not to as we wanted to try out as many types of food as possible.

My brother and I headed to the sashimi counter and requested for a box of salmon belly and tuna.
The chef then sliced the sashimi for us, packed them in the box and weighed it.
Our box of sashimi costs NT330 which was cheaper than what was offered on the display
box next to it.
My brother bought 3 pieces of fresh oyster at the counter not knowing that there
were oysters packed and placed at the racks along the aisle.

After shopping for our lunch, we finally paid for our items.
We had:
1 box of grilled eel
2 boxes of sushi
1 box of sashimi
5 pieces of oysters
2 packets of drinks

The damage was close to NT 2000 for 4 pax.
Fresh oyster
It was a challenge getting a standing table outdoors.
However, I managed to get us a table after 5 minutes of wandering around.

Everything that we bought was fresh and good.
We were so stuffed after our meal!
I would definitely recommend you to visit this place if you would like a change from
the usual Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine.

After lunch, we took a cab to Minquan West Road train station as we were heading to Tamsui.
It was a long train ride because we Tamsui was the last stop on the red line.

I have been here during my last visit.
There were many shops available along the river as well as the old street.
A must visit when you are in Tamsui is the Fisherman's Wharf.
To get there, you can either take bus 25 from the train station or a boat.
The boat ride costs NT 60 (one way) and the view was really nice.
Although the waters were choppy, we arrived at Fisherman's Wharf within 15 minutes.
Lover's Bridge
Fisherman's Wharf

There wasn't much to see at Fisherman's Wharf, so just soak in the pretty view in front of you.
If you love alpacas, you could pay a visit to Oia Art Cafe which is a 30 minutes cab ride
from Fisherman's Wharf.
As we are not interested in that, we took bus 25 back to Tamsui station
from the bus stop outside Tamsui Fish Market.

After watching the brief sunset, we took a train to Jiantan station, which was the nearest
station for Shilin Night Market.
Something which I have been wanting to try is the potato with cheese.
And the famous stall can be easily spotted at the traffic junction!
Potato with cheese
There was a fried chicken cutlet stall located in front of the potato cheese stall.
The line was horrendously long.
I wanted to queue at first as I wanted to try something different than the usual Hot Star
which can be found in Singapore now.
But we decided not to and we continued to explore the night market.

My brother brought us to his favourite bubble tea place at Shilin Night Market.
I was full, so I settled for a sip of his milk tea, haha.
It was different from 50 lan (50嵐), the taiwanese version of Koi.
But still good!
