Ahoy Boston!

BOSTON: 12 OCT - 14 OCT 2012
Downtown Boston is known to be a historical town. There is so much history in the town, but all you need to do is to walk the freedom trail. Most of the main historical attractions are located along the trail. Like all other states we have visited, Boston is definitely a walking city. The only time we took a subway was when the sky was getting dark and we were too tired to do a thirty minutes walk back to our hostel.
The second day of the trip started off with whale watching. Since the temperature will drop by at least ten degrees when we are out in the ocean, the three of us were all geared up, with gloves and fleece jacket to tide us through the cold.
However, ladyluck was not on our side that morning, and our trip was a wasted one. No whales at all. Only a dead one lying on the beach.
If I did not have to fight the cold and seasickness, I would not complain so much about the cruise ride. It was inevitable to be disappointed. The ticket was so expensive too!
Nevertheless, our day went on by completing the freedom trail.

On top of all the bad things that happened during whale watching, bad relations started forming between us. I guess maybe all of us have different travel interests, and the difficulty to compromise each other's plans surfaced eventually. From that day onwards, we started to drift apart. We are still friends, but not the kind that I will want to keep in touch when I return to Singapore.

The third day started off with a trip to Cambridge, home to another Ivy league school - Harvard University. Compared to Yale University, the architecture of Harvard University is not as pretty indeed. But who cares about the exterior when what is more important is the brain.

 Autumn has finally arrived!
Harvard statue

We had no clue about the idea being touching the foot of the Harvard statue. However, seeing how other tourists touched the foot in every photo without fail made us attempt that same gesture! I went back to google it, and it merely states that it gives good luck. Haha! Oh well, better than nothing right?

After Harvard, we headed back to downtown Boston to complete the last bit of the freedom trail - USS Constitution.

I really enjoyed our tour on the battleship. With a soldier acting as our guide, it made the whole tour much more interesting. I think this was the best part of the whole trip to Boston. Haha! Maybe it is because I am not into history, and so historical museums tend to bore me out real quick.

Boston is a nice mix of New York and Connecticut - interesting shops and lively atmosphere, yet not too overwhelming. Boston is definitely worth a visit if you love history, culture and most importantly, seafood!
