Tokyo 2017 Day 6: Tsukiji Fish Market
DAY 6: 16 JUN 2017
Finally, another highlight for this trip:
Tsukiji Fish Market!
We took the train and alighted at Tsukiji station.
It was a short and easy walk to the market.
It was my first time there and it was relatively easy to comb through all the lanes.
Our first stop was a sushi place which they have patronised during their last visit.

Sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market |
I didn't manage to get the name of the restaurant...
There are many famous ones situated in the market such as Sushi Dai and Sushi Zanmai.
So, you will definitely be assured of the quality regardless of where you choose to dine at.
If you prefer somewhere cheaper, then you can try out Sushi Zanmai.

Unagi sushi made on the spot |
and indicated clearly.
The cheapest tier was around 125 to 130 yen if I am not wrong.
There were chefs stationed at the counter where we were seated and they will proceed
to make the sushi once our order was made.
Every single item we ordered were fantastic!
Loved it!
Japanese strawberry mochi |
We began to explore the market after our meal.
There were lots of food stalls available at every lane in the market.
We decided to join the queue for this stall!
They only sell oysters and scallops, but in a humongous size!
It is indeed expensive, but how often do we get to see this in Singapore?
We bought 1 grilled scallop and 1 fresh oyster to try and they were amazing!
Juicy, fresh and tender!
Along the way, we bought other snacks to try out.
Mochi...Sea urchin...even more seafood...
The weather was sunny that day so we decided to get some ice cream to chase the heat away!
I bought the goma (black sesame) ice cream instead of my usual must-eat flavour, matcha.
The ice cream was definitely nicer than the one I ate at Hakone as it was thicker
and the taste of the black sesame was stronger.
That evening, we decided to try out the famous ramen restaurant situated at the same building
as the Owl cafe.
When we visited the Owl cafe the other day, there was already a line and it was mid-day only?
We decided to see if it was worth the hype!
It was drizzling when we arrived.
The line was not as long and we queued for around 30 minutes before we got in.
While waiting in line, we were given an English menu and our orders were taken just before
it was our turn to enter.
The restaurant was tiny!
No wonder the line is always long.
The staff may ask if you would like to sit separately.
If you are comfortable with it then go ahead, or else, just reject politely and wait a little
while more (:
Ramen at Mutekiya, Ikebukuro |
They offer many different types of ramen and even soba too.
It has been too long since our trip and I have already forgotten what we ordered.
I was very impressed with the serving to be honest.
The char siew slices were so thick!
Was it worth the hype?
I do think you should try it if you want something different from Ichiran.
The number of locals in line actually tell you how good it is already.
Thereafter, we decided to spend our time again at Ikebukuro.
